Obituary: Legally blind, James Lowe created Civil War database

James Stafford Lowe, a retired mechanical engineer in Houston, always had a meticulous eye for detail and spent the last 15 years before his death compiling a definitive database on every Civil War battle and skirmish – despite having been declared legally blind.
